Ms Kirsi Karlamaa appointed as Director-General of the Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority

On 22 October 2015 the Finnish Government appointed Ms Kirsi Karlamaa (47), Master of Science (Technology), as Director-General of the Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority, Ficora. Her term of office will begin on 1 January 2016 and last until 31 December 2020.

For the last ten years Ms Karlamaa has served in management roles at Ficora and as its Deputy Director-General. Most recently she acted as Director of the National Cyber Security Centre Finland (NCSC-FI) at Ficora and before that as Director of Security Division and Director of Radio Frequencies. Ms Karlamaa has worked for Ficora since 2000.

The position of Director-General was reopened as Ms Asta Sihvonen-Punkka, who started her new term as Director-General in the beginning of October, informed that as of 2016 she will transfer to Fingrid.

Ficora operates under the Ministry of Transport and Communications. Its duty is to monitor and promote the Finnish communications markets and services. It also ensures that the communications connections in Finland are versatile, well-functioning and secure. Ficora employs around 240 people.
