The government proposes the appointment of LL.M. Harri Pursiainen (53) as Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications.

The government made its decision on the matter on 10 March 2011. Permanent Secretaries are appointed by the President of the Republic.

The government decision followed the proposal of Ms. Anu Vehviläinen, Minister of Transport. Among the reasons for Mr Pursiainen's reappointment, Minister Vehviläinen cited his broad expertise in the administrative sector and in state administration as well as his extensive management experience. Mr Pursiainen's merits in the development of the administrative sector are also significant.

Harri Pursiainen has worked at the Ministry of Transport and Communications since 1984. He was made Director-General of the Communications Policy Department in 2001 and has been engaged as Permanent Secretary of the Ministry since 2006. Before transferring to the Ministry, Mr Pursiainen was employed in the National Board of Public Roads and Waterways.
