In addition to the communications data of the national statistics agency Statistics Finland, data is also collected and published for general use by the Ministry of Transport and Communications and the authorities and agencies within its administrative branch. This section includes links to sources of statistical data concerning the communications sector.
The data gathered by Statistics Finland under this heading concern the mass media and cultural life from various perspectives, primarily dealing with financial aspects, the structure of the sector and the use of products and services. The data indicates how people divide their use of time under categories such as paid employment, household work, hobbies, use of the media, cultural and other leisure pursuits, sports and fitness, participation in civil society, and friends and family.
The Market Review published by the Finnish Communications
Regulatory Authority includes a range of indicators describing the
state of and trends in the communications market. It contains
information on broadband networks, mobile and fixed telephone
networks, and market shares of the different operator groups based
on subscriber connections. The volume of fixed and mobile phone
calls is also monitored and information given on trends in the
number of SMS and MMS messages sent via mobile subscriber
connections.
The information in the Market Review is based on the market data
collected from telecommunications operators by the Finnish
Communications Regulatory Authority.
The Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority is required to gather statistics on Finland’s postal sector. Data is collected on standard postal services and postal deliveries of direct marketing material and newspapers. These statistics were first published in 1997. Prior to this, the data was compiled by the Finland Post Group. The task of compiling the data was allocated to Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority, as an official body, following the introduction of competition in the postal sector.
The Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority collects information from telecommunications operators on a quarterly basis concerning response times in their customer and advice services.
The Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority collects statistical data on mobile phone subscriptions and call pricing.
CERT-FI is the Finnish national Computer Emergency Response Team operating within the Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority. Its tasks include the collection of statistical data on information security incidents and publishing information security reviews.
