The Ministry of Transport and Communications and the agencies and authorities within its administrative sector, and Statistics Finland produce statistical data for general use.
Transport statistics by the Statistics Finland include data on registered vehicles, road and rail networks and traffic, goods transport by road, domestic and foreign waterborne traffic, air traffic and traffic accidents.
An annual publication of the Finnish Road Administration, Finnish Road Statistics, provides information on the vehicle fleet, traffic, and road network in Finland, and personnel and financing of the Road Administration. The data is categorised by road regions. Some of the data on road traffic and the road network is also displayed by geographical regions and municipalities.
The Finnish Vehicle Administration compiles statistical data on the number of driving licences granted and valid, the vehicle fleet, the number of first registrations, imported used vehicles, and driving tests.
Liikenneturva follows the road safety situation in Finland for example by means of accident statistics. Statistical data and reviews compiled by Liikenneturva and its main partners are available on its web pages.
Finnish Railway Statistics published by the Rail Administration contains data on the rail network and railway traffic in Finland.
The Finnish Maritime Administration produces statistical analyses of maritime transport to and from Finland and of transport on inland and coastal waterways. There are also statistics about canal transport, seamen, Finland’s merchant fleet, and Finnish-owned vessels abroad.
The statistics by the Civil Aviation Authority provide information on aircraft registered in Finland; medical certificates; oversight of air worthiness and maintenance; air accidents; numbers of licences, training permissions and approvals; flight operations such as flight hours and oversight of flight operations and training.
The Finnish Civil Aviation Administration, Finavia, regularly publishes statistics on the number of passengers, landings, and freight and mail volumes. Information on flights is obtained from the Air Traffic Control while information relating to passenger, cargo and postal volumes for specific airlines is obtained from the forwarding companies at the airports.
The Finnish Meteorological Institute collects statistical data and observations about the climate. These include information about winter conditions on the road, for example.
