The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has completed its audit report on the Finnish maritime administration. The report acknowledges the work of the Finnish administration and includes proposals for developing its activities.
MINTC invites comments on the Baltic Sea submarine cable project

The Ministry of Transport and Communications invites comments on the Baltic Sea submarine cable project from all interested parties. This request for comments is open to all, including telecommunications operators, data centre operators, cable suppliers, investors and the authorities. The deadline for the comments is 22 May 2013.
Pursiainen: Visa-free travel would benefit economic relations between Finland and Russia

The first seminar on Finnish commerce is being held in St. Petersburg, Russia. Permanent Secretary Harri Pursiainen addressed the seminar on behalf of the Finnish Government on 11 April 2013. - For Finland, Russia constitutes a neighbouring market, and its political and economic developments have a direct impact on trade and transport between the countries and the transit traffic through them. The closer the cross-border relations between the countries are, the more Russians will become interested in Finnish services and the good connections between Finland and the rest of Europe, Pursiainen says.
Environmental aid for ships open for application

The application period for investment aid to improve the level of environmental protection of sea-going vessels began on 2 April 2013. Investment aid is to be granted for the purpose of retrofitting vessels with exhaust gas cleaning systems, such as sulphur scrubbers.
Government in favour of the EU proposal concerning alternative fuels

The EU Commission has committed itself to the promotion of alternative fuels to increase their use and to enable uniform operation of traffic in the whole of Europe. The government of Finland supports the aim of the Commission.
Investment aid for ships to ease adaptation to sulphur emission limits

Finnish shipping companies may receive support for ship investment projects which significantly benefit the environment. On 14 March, the Finnish Government issued an amendment to the Decree on investment aid improving the level of environmental protection of ships. The amendment will enter into force on 1 April 2013, and applications for investment aid may be filed from 2 Apr

EU approves Finland's investment aid to sulphur scrubbers

23 January 2013 - the European Commission approved amendments to Finland's state aid scheme on vessel investments improving the level of environmental protection. Following the approval, investment aid may also be granted for the purpose of retrofitting vessels with exhaust gas cleaning systems, such as sulphur scrubbers.
