On 20 January 2011, the government appointed Ms Asta Sihvonen-Punkka, Lic. Sc. (Econ.) to the post of Director General of the Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority. Ms Sihvonen-Punkka's term of office will commence on 1 March 2011 and end on 30 September 2015.
Before assuming her new post, Ms Sihvonen-Punkka has been employed in the Energy Market Authority as Director-General from 2002 and as a Director from 1998. Previously, she has been engaged as an Assistant Director in the Finnish Competition Authority. From 2008, Ms Sihvonen-Punkka has been acting as the chairperson of an EU Working Group on the Electricity Market.
The Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority works under the Ministry of Transport and Communications. Its task is to ensure that Finland is a society with high information security in which communications networks and markets work without disruption and the position of the consumer is secure.
