The Ministry of Transport and Communications has awarded discretionary government grants for 2021 for operational and investment expenditure of regional airports and aerodromes outside the airport network of Finavia Corporation.

The regional airports will be supported by EUR 900,000. Preliminary discretionary government grant for supporting regional airports will be awarded to Lappeenranta airport (EUR 500,000) and to ENF People, Operations and Projects Oy (Enontekiö airport, EUR 400,000). In order to receive the grant, the applicant must meet the terms set in the decisions. There were altogether 7 applications.

The grants were allocated for maintaining and developing regional airports, which helps supporting regional connections and improving regional accessibility. The grants are discretionary. The focus in assessing the applications was on promoting passenger and scheduled services. A precondition for the grant is that the airport has regular scheduled or chartered services to or from Finnish or foreign destinations.

In considering the allocation of the grants, the National Transport System Plan for 2021-2032 was taken into account.
