The Government proposes that provisions concerning liability for damages caused in pilotage activities be moved from the Tort Liability Act to the Pilotage Act.

With the amendment, a company carrying out pilotage activities would have limited liability for damages when the damage has been caused deliberately or by gross negligence. A pilotage company's liability for damages would be EUR 100,000 per event at the maximum.

The amendments are related to the incorporation process of the Finnish State Pilotage Enterprise, set to start on 1 January 2011.

The Government decided on the content of the proposal on Thursday 21 October.
