HDTV licences in antenna networks open for applications

The Finnish Government invites applications for two operating licences for high-definition television (HDTV) test broadcasts in antenna networks. The deadline for applications is 8 May 2009.

The network referred to in the operating licence must cover 60 per cent of the population in mainland Finland by the end of 2011.

The testing will not influence the service area of the current digital television transmissions, and there is no need for new receivers. Nevertheless, a new terminal device will be needed for watching HDTV broadcasts, and reception may also require some antenna adjustments.
