Jarkko Saarimäki appointed as Director General of the Services Department at the Ministry of Transport and Communications

On 22 September 2022, the Government appointed Jarkko Saarimäki, 45, Master of Laws, as Director General of the Services Department at the Ministry of Transport and Communications. His term of office will be from 1 October 2022 to 30 September 2027.

Currently, he works at the Transport and Communications Agency Traficom as Director General of Transport System Services. In 2016-2019, Saarimäki served as Director of the National Cyber Security Centre at Traficom and before that as Head of Development and as Deputy Director General at the Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority.

The Director General is a member of the Ministry's management groups and is responsible for the management and effective operations of the department.

There are three units in the Services Department responsible for matters related to the service market, consumer protection and rights of service users, economic policy in the services sector, development of the internal market, qualifications and social issues.

The position became vacant as its previous holder Olli-Pekka Rantala was appointed as Director General of the Ministerial Governance Department.
