Transport and climate change on the agenda in ITF Leipzig meeting

The International Transport Forum 2008 took place in Leipzig, Germany, at the end of May. During the three-day event hosted by Finland especially the measures to reduce climate change were discussed. The Forum participants included transport ministers from 35 countries. The meeting was chaired by Ms Anu Vehviläinen, Finland's Minister of Transport.

The ministers raised the promotion of new technologies as a key theme in climate issues. Attention was also paid to the existing transport policy measures, such as development of public transport services.

The keynote speaker at the Forum was Ms Angela Merkel, Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany.
