Vehicles Act to be revised
The Vehicles Act will be revised to correspond to changes in EU regulations. The objective is to clarify the Act by removing provisions that overlap or conflict with EU regulations.
In addition, some technical corrections will be made to update the Vehicles Act. During the preparation process, the statutory powers of issuing decrees and regulations will also be specified in more detail. The objective is to clarify and simplify legislation. This reform is part of the Government’s key project on deregulation.
The reform is based on the EU framework regulation for the approval of motor vehicles and their trailers, which will enter into force on 1 September 2020. The revision of the Vehicles Act will be implemented before the entry into force of the framework regulation.
The Vehicles Act contains provisions on the technical characteristics, approval, registration and inspection of vehicles. The Vehicle Act currently in force is from 2002.
The reform project has been launched, and preparations will continue by Ministry officials.
The government proposal is due to be submitted to Parliament at the beginning of 2020. The Act is scheduled to enter into force on 1 September 2020.
