On 1 March 2023, the European Commission published its proposal for a road safety package. The package includes proposals for revising the Directive on driving licences and the Directive on facilitating cross-border exchange of information on road-safety-related traffic offences (CBE Directive), and for a new Directive on the Union-wide effect of certain driving disqualifications.

The European Commission has launched a public consultation on the future of the electronic communications infrastructure and its development. The aim is to gather views on potential developments of the communications sector and infrastructure. The consultation includes a survey about the possible need for a system, in which all players benefitting from the digital networks, such as content providers, should contribute to the funding of the networks.

Amendments to the Aviation Act concerning air navigation obstacles and the use of drones

On 16 February 2023, the President of the Republic approved amendments to the Aviation Act, the Act on Transport Services and the Territorial Surveillance Act. In future, the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency can establish an airspace where unmanned aircraft, i.e. drones, could be operated in a more controlled manner with the support of different services. The permission process for air navigation obstacles will also be amended. In addition, there will be some minor amendments to the Aviation Act, the Act on Transport Services and the Territorial Surveillance Act. The legislative amendments will enter into force on 20 February 2023.
