Finland's air traffic control, aerodrome and approach control services will in future be the responsibility of Air Navigation Services Finland Oy. On 17 March 2017 a Board of Directors and CEO were appointed for the company, which is set to start providing air navigation services as from 1 April 2017.

The Board of Directors of Air Navigation Services Finland Oy will be chaired by Kimmo Mäki from Port of Helsinki Oy. Members of the Board will be Senior Vice President Asta Sihvonen-Punkka from Fingrid Oy and Director-General Teemu Penttilä from the Ministry of Defence. The Board's term of office will begin on 17 March 2017.

Director of Air Navigation Services Raine Luojus will serve as CEO of the company.

All employees who are working for air navigation services at Finavia Corporation will be transferred to the new company so that they retain their current terms of employment.

On 20 December 2016, the Government's Ministerial Committee on Economic Policy supported the proposal by the Ministry of Transport and Communications to corporatise the air navigation services of Finavia Corporation and turn them into a special assignment company in spring 2017.

"The differentiation of the air navigation services business into a separate company is a way to prepare for the changes that are expected in the sector. We want to promote the competitiveness and cost efficiency of Finnish air transport services in order to succeed in international competition. As an independent operator the Air Navigation Services Company will be more flexible to experiment and develop its operations and that way keep up with the technological developments in the sector," says Minister of Transport and Communications Anne Berner.

The wholly state-owned Air Navigation Services Finland Oy will be responsible for such special functions related to air navigation as airspace management, area control, aeronautical services for state purposes and air search and rescue services.
