About this site

LVM.fi is the website of the Finnish Ministry of Transport and Communications. It comprises a set of services, including press releases, publications and descriptions of ongoing projects. The site provides you with information in Finnish, Swedish, and English, the Finnish-language section being the most extensive.

The renewed LVM.fi was introduced on 25 January 2016 at the same time as the Ministry was given a new visual identity. The new structure is in line with the Government web communications standard.

Site structure and usage

The site has six main sections: press releases, areas of expertise, publications, the Ministry, administrative sector, and contacts.

The breadcrumb trail at the top of the page shows where within the site you are.  The footer on the page has a site map that describes the structure of the site with a list of the main headings and subheadings.

A search box at the top of each page will help you find the information you are looking for.

Web browsers and terminal devices

The website uses responsive design and the content adapts to the used device. The pages are best viewed with the latest browser versions. The website can also be viewed with earlier browser versions but then you might not be able to make full use of all the service features available.

Google analytics performance cookies

www.lvm.fi __utma
Enables the monitoring of user behaviour and the measuring of the site performance. This cookie lasts for 2 years and distinguishes between users and sessions. It is used to calculate new and returning visitor statistics. The cookie is updated every time data is sent to Google Analytics. The lifespan of the cookie can be customised by website owners.

www.lvm.fi __utmb
This cookie determines new sessions and visits and expires after 30 minutes. The cookie is updated every time data is sent to Google Analytics. Any activity by a user within the 30 minute life span will count as a single visit, even if the user leaves and then returns to the site. A return after 30 minutes will count as a new visit, but a returning visitor.

www.lvm.fi __utmc
Not used in most sites but is set to enable interoperability with the older version of Google Analytics code known as Urchin. In the older versions this was used in combination with the __utmb cookie to identify new sessions/visits for returning visitors. When used by Google Analytics this is always a Session cookie which is destroyed when the user closes their browser. Where it is seen as a Persistent cookie, it is likely to be used through a different technology setting.

www.lvm.fi __utmt
The cookie is used to throttle the request rate for the service - limiting the collection of data on high traffic sites. It expires after 10 minutes

www.lvm.fi __utmt_~1
The cookie appears to be a variation of the __utmt cookie which is used to limit the amount of data recorded by Google on high traffic volume websites.

www.lvm.fi __utmv
Used when site owners create custom visitor-level variables for customising what can be measured. The cookie is updated every time data is sent to Google Analytics. The cookie has a default lifespan of two years.

www.lvm.fi __utmz
