Board of Directors appointed for Arctia Shipping Ltd

On 29 December 2009 the general meeting of Arctia Holding Ltd elected a Board of Directors for Arctia Shipping Ltd, the state-owned company starting operations on 1 January 2010. The Board's term will begin on 1 January 2010.

The Board chairman of Arctia Shipping Ltd will be Industrial Counsellor Mr Matti Virtaala.

The other Board members will be Ms Sari Aitokallio, Senior Vice President at Metso Corporation, Ms Maire Laitinen Senior Legal Counsel at Fondia Ltd, Mr Mika Mäkilä, Director of Corporate Policy Unit at the Ministry of Transport and Communications, Mr Jukka Suominen, M.Sc. (Tech.), B.Sc. (Econ. & Bus. Adm.), Ms Päivi Söderholm, Master Mariner at the Centre for Maritime Studies, and Mr Pekka Savikko, as employee representative (with personal deputy Mr Rauno Mutka).

Arctia Holding Ltd was established for the start-up phase, and from 1 January 2010 it will continue as the state-owned limited liability company Arctia Shipping Ltd.

Arctia Shipping Ltd is a company set up to manage the operations of the former State Shipping Enterprise. The company's sphere of operation will be the provision of icebreaking services, special services using multipurpose vessels, and ferry services, as well as other activities serving waterborne traffic in Finland and abroad. The limited liability company will also engage in vessel management and chartering in Finland and abroad.

The state ownership policy towards the company will be applied by the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
