Finland and India signed a Memorandum of Cooperation

Ms Anu Vehviläinen, Minister of Transport of Finland, and Mr Kamal Nath, Minister for Road Transport and Highways of India, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of scientific and technological cooperation in transport on 10 May 2010.

The Memorandum is an agreement on cooperation between specialists of the Transport Policy Department of the Finnish Ministry of Transport and Communications and of the Indian Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in the sectors of road administration development, road construction and maintenance, traffic safety, intelligent transport and logistics.

The main forms of cooperation will be exchange of information and mutual visits aiming to promote relations between enterprises, industrial cooperation agreements and transfers of technology.

After the signing of the Memorandum, Minister Nath and the Indian delegation met representatives of the Ministry of Transport and Communications and Finnish transport administration.

Minister Nath visited Finland on 10-11 May at the invitation of Minister Vehviläinen. During his visit he also met Ms Paula Lehtomäki, Minister of the Environment, Mr Mauri Pekkarinen, Minister of Economic Affairs, and Mr Paavo Väyrynen, Minister for Foreign Trade and Development.

Minister Nath has served as a member of the Indian Government many times. From 2004 to 2009 he served as India's Minister of Commerce and Industry.
