Juhapekka Ristola to be Director-General of the Communications Policy Department

Mr Juhapekka Ristola (41) has been appointed Director-General of the Communications Policy Department at Finland's Ministry of Transport. The Ministry announced the appointment on 11 May 2010.

The appointment is for a fixed period of time, from 1 October 2010 to 31 May 2011. As of 11 May 2010 he will serve as the first deputy Director-General, deputising for Ms Liisa Ero.

Mr Ristola is a Master of Laws, trained on the bench. He became Director of the Ministry's Communications Networks Unit in July 2007. He has worked at the Ministry since 2002.

The Communications Policy Department has two units: Communications Networks, and Media and Communications Services. The Communications Policy Department is responsible for communications networks legislation, information security and data protection, promotion of the availability of communications services, spectrum policy, and radio and television broadcasting legislation. Matters relating to postal services, press subsidies and performance guidance of the Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority are also its responsibilities.
