Kari Wihlman to continue as Director-General of the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency

The Government appointed Kari Wihlman, Master of Laws with court training, as Director-General of the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency on 10 November 2022. His five-year term of office will begin on 1 January 2023.

Wihlman has served as Director-General of the Transport Infrastructure Agency (formerly the Finnish Transport Agency) since the beginning of 2018. Before that, Wihlman served as Director-General of the Finnish Transport Safety Agency in 2010-2017 and as Director-General of the Finnish Vehicle Administration in 2008-2009. He has also held several other managerial positions in the administrative branch of the Ministry of Transport and Communications.

The Transport Infrastructure Agency is responsible for the state's transport infrastructure. Its tasks include the planning, development and maintenance of road, rail and maritime transport infrastructure and with the coordination of transport and land use policies. In addition, the Agency organises traffic management and winter navigation.

The Transport Infrastructure Agency employs 480 specialists.
