Krista Kiuru appointed Minister responsible for communications issues

Ms Krista Kiuru, MP, has been appointed Finland's new Minister of Housing and Communications. The President of the Republic announced the appointment on Wednesday 22 June. As Minister of Housing and Communications, Ms Kiuru will be responsible for matters covered by the Communications Policy Department of the Ministry of Transport and Communications. Her office will be located at the Ministry of the Environment.

Ms Kiuru (36) is a member of the Social Democratic Party of Finland and a second-term Member of Parliament, elected from the Satakunta constituency. She is also Chair of Pori City Council.

At Parliament Ms Kiuru is a member of the Grand Committee, Foreign Affairs Committee and Legal Affairs Committee as well as Chair of the Finnish Delegation to the Council of Europe.

She serves as vice-chair of the Party Council of the Social Democratic Party, Chair of the Council of the Finnish Red Cross and Chair of the Consumers' Association.

Ms Kiuru is a Master of Social Sciences. Her previous professional experience includes teaching (philosophy, drama and acting) and working as a guidance counsellor.
