Finland's Minister of Transport and Communications Anne Berner has invited Nordic transport and energy ministers to discuss the changes taking place in the transport sector. The meeting will be held on 8 March at the Neste refinery in Kilpilahti, Porvoo.

The meeting will focus on the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in the transport sector and the required measures. In summer 2016, the European Union Commission proposed for Member States binding emission reduction targets that are strongly aimed at the transport sector too. The targets proposed for Nordic Member States are reductions of 39-40% by 2030 from the 2005 level.

"Cooperation between the Nordic countries is welcome in order to reach the emission reduction targets. Joint solutions to reduce emissions will also open up opportunities for new business and innovations," Minister Berner says.

The meeting agenda includes such items as necessary changes in the transport system, solutions provided by Nordic companies, transport and service innovations with lower emissions, and possible common practices in the Nordic countries.

The meeting participants will include Sweden's Minister for Policy Coordination and Energy Ibrahim Baylan and Norway's Minister of Transport and Communications Ketil Solvik-Olsen.
