Press release
An operating licence for the fourth digital broadcasting network, which is intended for mobile television broadcasts and services, has been granted to Digita. The Government issued the licence on 23 March.

Finland will be the first country in Europe to open a commercial mobile phone television network. Digita intends to start commercial operations using the network already this year.

In terms of digitalisation, the mobile phone television is an important new service. It makes it possible to use the phone for watching TV and videos, playing games or using other interactive services. By using the mobile phone network, content providers in Finland will be the first to develop new multimedia services and business.

The mobile phone television network will use DVB-H technology. The operating licence will cover the entire country, excluding the Åland islands, and it will be valid for 20 years. Three other digital broadcasting networks are available for transmitting television programmes.

Elisa Corporation, TeliaSonera Finland Oyj and Telemast Nordic Oy had also applied for the licence.

Licences for mobile television programmes will be issued separately.
