Ms Suvi Lindén appointed Minister of Communications

Ms Suvi Lindén, MP, has been appointed Minister of Communications. The President of Finland announced the appointment on Thursday, 19 April.

At the Ministry of Transport and Communications Ms Lindén will be responsible for matters concerning the Communications Department and the Preparedness Unit.

Ms Lindén, 45, is a Master of Arts. She is a member of the National Coalition Party and has been a Member of Parliament since 1995, elected from the Oulu constituency.

Most recently she has been vice chair of the National Coalition Party Parliamentary Group and chair of the Education and Culture Committee. She has also been a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee and a member of the Speaker's Council. Ms Lindén acted as Minister of Culture in the second Lipponen cabinet, and chaired the Information Society Advisory Board in 2002.

Ms Lindén lives in Oulu, where she is a member of the City Council since 1989. She has held several positions of trust in municipal and regional bodies, and currently acts as Chair of the executive board of the Oulu Region Joint Authority for Education.

Ms Lindén is married. She enjoys sports and is interested in cultural activities.
