Ownership steering of Arctia Shipping Ltd and Meritaito Ltd to be transferred 21 November 2011
The responsibility for ownership matters related to Arctia Shipping Ltd and Meritaito Ltd will be transferred from the Ministry of Transport and Communications to the Prime Minister's Office. The Government endorsed an amendment to the Decree on the Ministry of Transport and Communications on 17 November 2011. The amendment comes into force on 21 November 2011 which is also when the transfer takes effect.
The transfer of ownership steering responsibility for these two companies is based on a resolution adopted by the Government on 3 November 2011. According to State ownership policy, the direction of state majority-owned companies operating on market terms takes place at the Ownership Steering Department in the Prime Minister's Office.
After the transfer, the Ministry of Transport and Communications continues to be in charge of the ownership matters of two state majority-owned companies: Finavia Corporation which is responsible for Finland's airport network and air navigation services, and Finnpilot Pilotage Ltd which is responsible for pilotage activities. The Ministry also carries out ownership steering tasks related to the Finnish Broadcasting Company YLE Ltd.
