The Ministry of Transport and Communications will start preparations for amending the requirements for tyres of heavy vehicles.

If a decision is made to change the requirements, the driving axles of trucks, lorries and buses would have to be fitted with winter tyres with a tread groove of at least 5.0 mm. The requirement would apply from December through February.

The current regulations do not differentiate between winter and other seasons.

Even though the amendments are planned to come into force already this year, they are designed to allow enough time for businesses to react to the possible changes.
