The Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the European Union will hold an informal video meeting of telecommunications ministers on 14 October 2021. In the meeting, Finland will be represented by Pilvi Torsti, State Secretary to the Minister of Transport and Communications Timo Harakka.

The meeting will hold a policy debate on the proposal for a regulation on the Artificial Intelligence Act. It will be an informal meeting where no formal decisions are taken.

The European Commission presented the draft regulation on artificial intelligence in April 2021. It is the Commission's aim to set up one horizontal regulatory framework for artificial intelligence that would be applied across different sectors.

The Commission wants to promote artificial intelligence systems that are safe and respect fundamental rights.

The Government submitted its view on the regulation proposal to Parliament on 27 May 2021. The matter is still being discussed by Parliament.
