The Ministry of Transport and Communications requests comments on a temporary amendment to the Pilotage Decree, which would allow pilots to demonstrate their familiarity with a channel through training solely in a ship simulator. The amendment applies to the renewal of pilot licences and pilotage exemption certificates.

It may be necessary to carry out training voyages in a ship simulator when ordinary pilotage assignments or training voyages are not possible during the COVID-19 epidemic due to reduced traffic in a channel, restrictions aiming to maintain health security or other compelling reasons associated with the epidemic.

The temporary amendment is proposed to remain in force until 30 June 2021. The deadline for comments is 16 December 2020.
