Press release

Finland will extend the validity of driving licences in accordance with the temporary derogations provided for in the EU Regulation. If the validity of a driving licence expires between 1 February and 31 August 2020, it will be extended by seven months.

In addition, the renewal of the period of validity of driver cards in professional transport will be extended by two months, if the cards expire between 1 March and 31 August 2020. In terms of Community licences for goods, bus and coach transport and of the international driver attestations, the validity period will be extended by six months, if these expire between 1 March and 31 August 2020, while the validity of professional qualifications of lorry and bus drivers will be extended by seven months, if they expire between 1 February and 31 August 2020.

Vehicle roadworthiness tests and tachograph inspections will be carried out as normal in Finland, regardless of the EU Regulation.

On 28 May 2020, the Government issued a decision on the non-application of certain provisions of the EU Regulation. The EU Commission will be informed of the decision without delay.
